15-year-old Emily Baron, a brave teenager from Sylvania, has been battling neurofibromatosis, a genetic disorder that causes tumors to grow on nerves, for most of her life. This rare condition has made her a fighter right from the start. Neurofibromatosis has led to numerous challenges for Emily, including frequent visits to doctors' offices, missing school, and built-up assignments. She undergoes regular MRIs to detect and monitor tumors in various parts of her body, including her brain, eye, and spine. Currently, she is preparing for surgery to remove a tumor near her chiasm, which poses a risk to her vision. Despite the obstacles she faces, Emily maintains a positive attitude and aims to spread awareness about neurofibromatosis. May is NF Awareness Month, providing an opportunity for individuals to support families affected by this condition. To contribute to the cause, join a fundraiser on May 17 at the Toledo Club.
