A recent Product recall by Michael Foods Inc., also known as M.G. Waldbaum Co., has seen 4,620 pounds of liquid egg products being recalled due to misbranding with an undeclared allergen. The Fair Meadow Foundations Whole Eggs with Citric Acid, produced by Michael Foods, were found to contain milk, a known allergen that was not listed on the product label. This recall was initiated by the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service.
The affected 32-ounce cartons of liquid egg products were produced on June 11, 2024, and distributed to various states including Alabama, Idaho, Louisiana, Minnesota, Nebraska, New Mexico, Ohio, South Carolina, and Utah. The issue was identified when some cartons of Whole Egg with Citric Acid were missing, and there was an excess of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg cartons in inventory. It was discovered that the mislabeling occurred during a short production run of Breakfast Blend Scrambled Egg, which contains milk as an ingredient.
The Food and Drug Administration requires allergens like milk to be clearly declared on product labels to ensure consumer safety. Despite the misbranding, there have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products, according to the FSIS. The agency is advising consumers to check for 32-ounce cartons of Fair Meadow Foundations Whole Eggs with Citric Acid with the use-by date of Sept. 16, 2024, lot code 4162G, and establishment number "EST. G1455" inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The FSIS is concerned that some of the recalled products may still be in the refrigerators of restaurants or other institutions. As a precaution, consumers are urged to discard the affected products or return them to the place of purchase and refrain from serving them. While there have been no reported illnesses linked to the consumption of these products, individuals who are worried about potential health issues should seek advice from a healthcare provider.

It is essential to stay informed about product recalls to ensure the safety of consumers and prevent any potential health risks associated with misbranded or contaminated products.
