As Jamaica braces for the impact of the approaching Tropical cyclone, Hurricane Beryl, several businesses have taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of their staff and customers. Sagicor, a prominent financial institution, has announced the early closure of various branches on Tuesday, July 2, and Wednesday, July 3, in anticipation of the storm.

Impact on Business Operations

Sagicor Bank Jamaica Limited, Sagicor Life Jamaica Limited, Advantage General Insurance Company, Sagicor Investments Jamaica Limited, and Sagicor Property Services branches will all be closed during the hurricane's expected impact. In contrast, Alliance Financial Services locations will remain open until 5 pm on Tuesday, July 2, except for the Liguanea and Belmont Road branches, which will close at 12 p.m. All Alliance Financial Services locations will be closed on Wednesday, July 3.

Late Monday, Beryls winds increased to 160 mph (260 kph). Fluctuations in strength were likely in the coming days.

Beryl was about 510 miles (825 kilometers) east-southeast of Isla Beata in the Dominican Republic and was moving west-northwest at 22 mph (33 kph). It was forecast to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday.

Sagicor has reassured its customers that despite the branch closures, services such as ABMs, online platforms like eBank and Client Web, and the company's websites will remain accessible for their convenience. Customers can also reach out to the Client Support Centre at 888-Sagicor (724-4267) for any assistance they may require during this time of disruption.
