Legal Battle: RazDog Holdings LLC Sues Twitch for Patent Infringement

RazDog Holdings LLC has taken legal action against Twitch Interactive, filing a lawsuit in the Northern District Court of California on June 17, 2024. The lawsuit claims that Amazon's streaming platform has violated RazDog's patent rights related to software technologies that enable swipe-scrolling and slide tools on desktop websites, mimicking a smartphone experience.

The complaint alleges that Twitch's live video carousels infringe on two of RazDog's patents, CloudMotion and CloudSource. The lawsuit seeks compensation in royalty payments, along with pre- and post-judgment interest, the amount of which will be determined during the trial.

The Patents Under Dispute

The lawsuit revolves around two patents held by RazDog Holdings - U.S. Patent No. 9,729,658, and U.S. Patent No. 10,334,068. The former, dated 2011, is titled "System For Managing Web-Based Content Data and Applications," while the latter, from 2017, is known as "System For Managing Web-Based Swipe Module Tool And Software For Scrolling And Paging Through Content Data And Applications." These patents focus on swipe and slide tools used on web pages, which RazDog claims Twitch has infringed upon with features on its platform.

Alleged Infringements on Twitch Platform

The lawsuit specifically points out the slide tool present on Twitch's live video carousel on the website's front page as an example of patent infringement. Additionally, features like the Twitch Video System that utilize carousels and a remote tool box are also highlighted as infringing on RazDog's patents. The complaint emphasizes that any implementation of carousels and remote tool boxes on Twitch constitutes damage to the plaintiffs' rights.

The court documents suggest that various features of the Twitch Video System violate RazDog's patents, including the use of carousels and a remote tool box.

Determination of Damages

The lawsuit does not specify the exact amount of damages sought by RazDog Holdings, leaving it up to the trial to determine the compensation owed by Twitch. Official trial dates have yet to be announced, but the legal battle between RazDog and Twitch is likely to continue as the case progresses in court.
