The World Health Organization confirmed the first death in Mexico from a strain of bird flu that has never been seen in humans. According to WHO, a 59-year-old resident of Mexico passed away on April 24 after showing symptoms such as fever, shortness of breath, diarrhea, nausea, and general discomfort. This marks the first reported case of human infection with the A(H5N2) subtype of avian influenza globally, as well as the first H5 virus infection in Mexico. The individual had no known contact with poultry or other animals, although cases of the A(H5N2) bird flu strain have been documented in Mexican poultry. Additionally, the person had pre-existing medical conditions and had been immobile for three weeks before experiencing acute symptoms, as stated by WHO.
